William can't come to see the Makhams. He wanted to speak to and and bring his new book. He sent him a coopy and he would his opinion on it, whether he likes it or not. He wants to have Markham's opinion printed a the newspapers about his book. It is a very valuable opinion.

California poet. Raised near Vacaville, became a schoolteacher in Coloma and later in Oakland. Became famous overnight with publication of "The Man with a Hoe," his protest against brutalization of labor, in "San Francisco Examiner" (January 15, 1899). Following this success Markham moved to New York where he scored another triumph with "Lincoln and Other Poems" (1901). He became a well-known reader of his own poems and lecturer of idealistic views, but his creative output for remainder of life ...
